Introduction

The human resource field is of a very wide descriptive angle and for us to understand clearly the implications of personal skills on professionalism we have to elaborate some of the challenges facing chief executives in Asia and New Zealand to be specific (Hutchinson & Boxall, 2014). An article by Hutchinson and Boxall gives an overview of those issues. Various parties interested in operations in organizations have either criticized or hailed the report. The report explains the challenges faced by chief executives in New Zealand based on the report indicated above.

Issues from the Article

One of the challenges explained in this article is the need for highly skilled professional labor. Asia as we all know is comprised of generally developing countries and some of them are classified as third world countries. This means that most of the countries in Asia lack some of the top-notch facilities as developed countries such as the USA. When it comes to higher education, some problems are encountered since most individuals have insufficient funds to cater for their education. This therefore brings a problem when it comes to the job market since most individuals are not able to access higher education. The issue of unemployment therefore arises where a huge portion of the unemployed in statistics is comprised mostly of individuals who did not go through institutions that offer higher education. The employers therefore go for the minority, which underwent through higher education since they are believed to have more skills. This is because the chief executives have to select among a number of individuals with significantly the same level of education. This leaves little space for the people with little or no education.

The chief executives therefore play an important role in the selection of individuals who will play an important role in the economy. New Zealand is among some of the generally developed country in Asia. The need for specialized workforce therefore arises and the chief executives are left with the task of ensuring that the individuals selected are of high work efficiency. This can be said to be a very critical challenge to the chief executives.

The report claims that some of the challenges faced by the chief executives may in a way affect the development of the country’s economy. This issue brings forth a question based on the challenge mentioned above. Do the challenges faced by chief executives have an effect on the development of the country’s economy or related industry? This question has been a cause of disagreement to critics around the country who give both positive and negative comments on the issue. It can be argued that the chief executives do not necessarily affect a country’s development but then again in some instances, they can affect an economy directly.

Individuals who are ushered into the job market are highly dependent on the kind of decisions chief executives face. Some decisions made by the chief executives may be based on many assumptions and this may pose as a challenge to the chief executives. They are faced with challenges on a criteria of which they are going to select a candidate in a given job positions. It may be found that most individuals who reach the qualifications of being accepted in a job position may lack the work ethics and efficiency in carrying out the relevant job. The chief executives may therefore receive a lot of criticism about some of their selection of individuals into the job market. This may bring a lot of debate on how selection of individuals who make it to the job market is made.

Chief executives are also faced with the challenge of ensuring that the companies or firms they are situated is performing in the market. The performance of given industry is highly dependent on several factors. Where there is stiff competition in a given industry, the company with the smaller number of consumers may face challenges in its work force and the chief executives may be held liable for the performance of the company (Hutchinson & Boxall, 2014). They therefore have to face the pressure of having to ensure the company as a whole meets the targeted sales.

Another major challenge facing the chief executives is vices such as corruption. This vice has been one of the major contributors to many businesses and companies’ shut down or absorption. The chief executives are left with the task of ensuring that such cases are seriously dealt with. Where such a case becomes rampant, the chief executives may be held liable may even be stripped off their duties. The chief executives can somehow be justified for some of the drawbacks in their tasks.

The position of chief executives is crucial as it determines how operations of a business or company are carried out. The best way to enable them to improve efficiency in their work is to create a department that analyses the activities in a given company or industry since it is going to enable the chief executives to analyze the activities and make favorable decisions (Ohhtaki, 2005). We find that most chief executives are not able to effectively follow up on a company’s activities and they therefore be left out on crucial factors that determine the performance of the related company. The presence of a department that also analyses the company’s performance and that of the rival companies will enable the chief executives to make better decisions concerning the company’s operations. The chief executive will also have the ability to ensure mistakes done in previous occasions are not carried out hence improving the company’s general revenue collections.

I believe that the chief executives are left with quite a number of responsibilities and the presence of third party departments will enable them to carry out their work efficiently. I would therefore highly encourage most competing industries to create a separate department that will enable them to be able to analyze the trends in the industry performance. This will help the chief executives in making decisions based on past behaviors and trends in the market concerning the company’s state of performance when compared to other key players in the relevant industry. The author of the article concerned about challenges by chief executives in New Zealand implies that the decisions made by the chief executives have a direct impact on the performance of the sector in which the concerned company is based. This is because they are left with the responsibility of ensuring the workforce and level of human resource guarantees high efficiency in the company’s operations (Arup, 2013).

This argument is because chief executives are more or less seen as the backbone of a company’s operations. It should be understood that chief executives are also left with other tasks such as ensuring that the workers’ welfare is catered for and this may leave little room for other responsibilities. The need for a department, which deals with such issues, therefore arises. This is because the labor force in a given company also affects the company’s performance. I can therefore strongly back the fact that the chief executives do not have a direct impact on a company’s performance.

The understanding of this concept may be of great help in class since it helps the student understand the interrelations of certain factors and how they affect decision-making(Secretariat, 2003). The performance of how an economy performs in New Zealand is not necessarily dependent on several companies’ performance. Other external factors may contribute to the ability of an economy to achieve optimal growth. The chief executives also have an important role in ensuring that the related company has strategies put in place to ensure that the company’s performance is not greatly affected by shifts in the sectors performance in the general economy. A student should be able to discern clearly how such factors may affect a certain department or position in a company and how to make decisions that will ensure that the performance of a certain company is. Research by various organizations show that the challenges faced by the chief executives can however be avoided through various strategies to ensure that they are overcome (Rowley, 2004). Huge globally based companies are faced with challenges that directly affect the chief executives. The chief executives therefore make proper strategies that enable to overcome such challenges. With help from other key players in a company’s operations, the chief executives are able to select professional individuals who have the optimal skills that will enable them to overcome any challenge faced by the concerned company.

Conclusion

It can therefore be concluded that the chief executive is a position that requires skill and efficiency to be able to carry out the tasks involved with such a position. New Zealand is one of the most powerful economies in Asia and the chief executives have been able to ensure that no matter the challenge that comes their way, the economy grows to its full potential and be a major key player in Asia’s economic endeavors.
