Standard Element 1.1

Policies work as the guideline framework that helps EN to work according to them to carry out day to day operations in relation to fulfill every day duty with legislation, regulation and codes of practice. For example: during my aged care placement I demonstrated well understanding of policies, law and regulations by raising the issue about staff’s inappropriate use of agency resources and responding to the situation that involved suspected towards residents .

Standard Element 1.2

The duty of EN is to work in accordance to legal duty of care, and ensuring that there is no breach of legal duty towards care. This also involves providing appropriate person-centered care. For example: during my aged care placement I understood the importance of working under the supervision and guidance of RN, which is very important for the patient’s safety. I worked according to the acceptable values and practice of nursing.

Standard Element 1.3

Knowledge and implication of NMBA standards, policies and procedural guidelines is important for the ongoing self and professional development of EN. This helps to maintain the skills and knowledge base for lifelong learning. For Example: during my aged care placement I demonstrated proper nursing practice in a way that ensured the dignity, rights, confidentiality, and respect of the patients, and always accepted the responsibility of my every action.

Standard Element 1.4

Providing nursing care according to the agreed plan is important for quality care and to improve patient outcomes. Working in accordance to workplace policies, procedural guideline and nursing standards are important for ensuring safe outcomes for the people in care. For example: during my aged care placement I fulfilled the duty of care by identifying the responsibilities with consultation of RN and performed all nursing interventions according to organizational policies.

Standard Element 1.5

It is very important that EN must work and identify responsibilitiesof the delgated nursing care in collaboration with RN and healhtcare team to ensure safety of patients and to avoid any chances of causing potential harm to self and other people. During my aged care placement, I demontrated tru understanding of responsibilities and importance of working in collaboration. I reported unsafe practice immediately to RN and ensured safety of individuals.

Standard Element 1.6

It is vital to identify limitations and competence in work and seek help from RN, as and when necessary in order to avoid unsafe practice and preventing the occurance of unsafe practices. Nursing care offered to the individuals must be under own competence. For example, during my placement in aged care I displayed my responsibility of ensuring that care is provided under my own level of competence and seeked help from RN if it was necessary for safe practice.

Standard Element 1.7

The activities and responsibilities should not be taken, when appropiate skills, knowledge and training has not been undertaken, as this can pose risk to individual’s safety. Also it is not leagal and ethical to work beyond knowledge and competence level. For example: during my aged care placement I demonstrated the understanding towards responsibility and accountability of nursing practice and refrained from undertaking any task, which was not in accordnace to my own leevl of competence.

It is very important that EN must work to ensure the safe outcomes and understand the need to protect people. The situations and events must be identified, where there is potential of harm. In such situations appropiate actions should be taken to protect people from harm. For example: during my placement in aged care I informed registered nurse immediately when any incident of unsafe nursing practice occurred and tried to explore the ways to prevent reoccurance of such incidents.

Standard Element 1.9

When the incidents of unsafe practice occur, they may be highly risky for the individuals under carre. Such incidents must be reported to RN or other person under authority. This is the best way to work in accordance to quality nursing practice. For example: during my placement in aged care I was always alert about unsafe practice that could pose potential harm. Acting in accordance to nursing practice requires to prevent harms and unsafe environment to improve quality of care.

Standard Element 1.10

EN must Liaises and negotiate with RN to ensure that rights of every individual are safe and well maintained. It must also be done when EN is not sure about the rights os an individual or a group withing the healthcare setting. For example: During my aged care placemnet, it often occurred that individuals were not satisfied with prescribed care. In that case I tried to negotiate with RN in order to make changes to the care to ensure rights of every individual.

Standard Element 2.1

The rights of every individual are very important to be maintained. Every individual have the right to autonomy. Nursing practice must ensure that rights of every individual/ group in healthcare context. Every individual has equal right of receiving quality care, thus diring my aged care placemnet I ensured that right of every individual or group to receive quality care must be fulkfilled.

Standard Element 2.2

Nursing practice requires to work according to NMBA standard codes and guidelines, as it states to maintain respect and condifentiality of healthrecords related to the individuals and maintaining confidentiality of the interactions with other professionals in healthcare setting. For example: during my placement in aged care I maintained the NMBA standard codes and guidelines by maintainning the confidentiality of the medical records and interactions with others in the organization. I also ensured that disussions related to individuals and groups are restricted to healthcare setting.

Standard Element 2.3

Demonstrating respect to every individual or group regarless of their age, race, ethnicity, physical or mental state, sexual preference, and difference in values and beleifs displays the ethical code of conduct and culturally competent environment. For example: during my placement in aged care I made sure that no individual or group is discriminated on the basis of age, race, ethnicity etc. and everyone shopuld be benefited with quality care regardless of several differences.

Culturally safe care is very important for nursing practice, as it helps in empowerment of the healthcare setting and healthcare professionals. In includes identifying and evaluating the cultural beleifs and values of individual and groups, as it potentially impact the care receivers. Imposing own cultural belief can be adisdvantage for the individuals. For example: during my aged care placemnet I worked according to culturally safe practice with Aboriginal and ToressStarit Islander people and people from different cultures, as it encourage trust and respect among care givers and care receivers.

Standard Element 2.5

Theraputic nurse-patient relationship are based on mutual respect and trust. When such relationships are maintained under professional boundaries, they nurture hope and faith in patients. For example: during my aged care placement I always tried to buid theraputic relationships with individuals by assisting them with gratification towards their emotional, physical and spritual beleifs. I ensured that I must respond to their needs morally without imposing my own beleifs, values and practices.

Standard Element 2.6

In order to provide high quality care, it is important to deliver equitable care when addressing people with different values and beleifs. Equity means to maintain hihg quality care for all regardless of their race , culture or etnicity. Inequality in nursing practice raise moral and ethical issues, as well as critical injustice. During my aged care placement I practiced equitable care for all. Regardless of difference in culture, values and beleifs, I offered equal care to every individual.

Standard Element 2.7

Ensuring privacy, dignity and confidentiality when providing care is an important practice of NMBA nursing standards. Nurse play an important role in maintaining confidentiality of patient’s health condition and records. It is the right of every patient that their records must be confidential. During my aged care placement I always advocated and promoted patient’s rights related to confidentiality and privacy.

Standard Element 2.8

Enrolled nurse must always clarify with RN or relevant members of the multidiscplinary team when any treatment or intervention appear unclear or inappropiate, as it is important to work according to the designated role and responsibilities. For example: during my aged care placement I always clarify with RN if any treatment was found to be unclear in order to save the patient from potential harm and to maintain accountability of my work. For practicing high quality nursing care such practice is very important.

Standard Element 2.9

Unethical and unsafe nursing practice lead to increasing risk for patient outcomes and also questions the quality of care. It is important to report to RN or person in authority about any such practice. For example: during my aged care placement I enured that no unethical practice must be done, which may lead to breach of policies, law or procedure, as it decreases patient’s trust in healthcare setting and also deteriorate patient outcomes.

Standard Element 2.10

Acknowlidging and accomodation the preferences of the patients is necessary to safegaurd their rights. EN should be able to negotiate about the care plans with RN if patient is not satisfied with current care plan. During my placement in aged care I gave preference to needs of patient, so that they may feel comfortable and trust the healthcare setting. It also improved the quality of care and satisfaction of recepients.

Standard Element 3.1

It is very imporatnt for the EN to practice according to relevant context of practice and legislation. Working according to designated practice and legislation helps to enhace knowledge and experience. For example, during my aged care placement I worked according to the standard of EN practice and always worked in order to enhace my knowledge and expertise.

Standard Element 3.2

Demonstrating accountability and responsibility is very important for EN. This displays seriousness towards profession and duty of care. Responsible behaviour is important for EN to ensure patient’s safety and well-being. For example, during my placement in aged care I took the responsibility and accountability to prove my skills and dedication towards duty of care.

Standard Element 3.3

Recognizing RN as the person to assist EN in decision making and provision of nursing care is the behaviour of responsibility towards duty and towards care receivers. RN is the person, who have expertise and skills that can help EN to make correct decision. For example: during my aged care placement, I always made decision by consulting with RN, as this is the best practice and provision of nursing.

Standard Element 3.4

EN must collaborate with the RN to ensure delegated responsibilities are commensurate with own scope of practice is an important standard of practice. EN must be responsible to complete the designated duty with collaboration of RN. This helps to gain experience and enhance knowledge. For example, during my aged care placement I demonstrated true understanding of working in collaboration with RN to ensure patient’s safety.

Standard Element 3.5

Having clear understanding of own responsibilities and role is very important. EN can achieve this only by the supervision of RN. RN’s had the correct understanding of procedures and policies of healthcare setting, and can help EN to understand their role and responsibilities. For example, during my aged care placement, I always clarified my role and responsibilities with RN in order to avoid any kind of unsafe nursing practice.

Standard Element 3.6

Consulting with RN and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team is important to practice according to accurate information regarding individual or group. It displays accountability. For example, during my aged care placement I always consulted with RN and multidisciplinary healthcare team so as to work according to provision of accurate information and to avoid poor nursing practice.

Standard Element 3.7

EN must provide care according to the scope of practice and with supervision of RN. Providing quality nursing care is the aim of EN, so every decision should be taken within the scope of practice to avoid mistakes and risk patient’s safety. For example, during my aged care placement, I provided care according to my scope of practice and never tried to work without supervision of RN.

Standard Element 3.8

The acceptance of accountability and responsibility is displayed by working in collaboration. EN must support the assistants to improve their skills and always ensure the care is offered according to the care plan and in accordance with policies, procedures and guidelines of the healthcare setting. For example, during my aged care placement I always supported and supervised my assistants, so that no mistakes are done in providing care.

Standard Element 3.9

Promoting safety and self of others in all aspects display the responsible behavior of EN. No risk should be taken with safety of self and care receiver. All decision should be made considering the responsibility and accountability towards nursing practice. For example, during my placement in aged care, I always demonstrated the responsible behavior, by preventing any kind of risk to self and patients.

Standard Element 4.1

Best nursing practice for EN includes interpreting information from a range of different sources in order to ensure that all information collected is accurate and demonstrate clarity about patient’s condition. For example, during my aged care placement I always worked to collect data and interpret it through different sources such as, interviews, physical examination, observation and measurement, so that nursing care plan may be accurate for the patient.

Standard Element 4.2

Critical thinking and observation skills are very essential for EN. All information collected, must be correctly interpreted, closely observed and monitored, and must be accurately reported, so as to ensure that correct functional status of the individual receiving care is collected. For example, during my aged care placement I always monitored, collected and interpreted the data of the people receiving care. I always reported the correct functional status of the patient for ensuring good nursing practice.

Standard Element 4.3

The plan of care must always be developed, monitored and maintained in collaboration with RN. This is important to ensure that patient is responding positively towards care plan and his health outcomes are positive. For example, during my aged care placement I always demonstrated the skills of proper collecting, monitoring, and maintaining the exact nursing care plan done in collaboration with RN.

Standard Element 4.4

It is the duty of EN to use all the healthcare resources and technology in accordance with workplace guideline. This is important to demonstrate quality nursing practice and safety of patients. For example, during my aged care placement I always used the healthcare technology and resources with responsibility and in accordance with the guideline of healthcare setting.
