• General Statement: Critical and Creative thinking are both essential to overcome plagiarism in academic writing.
• Thesis statement: In this essay the difference between critical and creative thinking will be clearly highlighted.
• Scope Statement: the essay will argue that reading and writing makes a person’s thinking creative as well as critical, thereby helping him in avoiding plagiarism (Wang, 2012). It is imperative to produce a write-up about this topic so that the students understand how to use these two types of thinking skills in their academic writing to not just avoid plagiarism but to actually make them readable, understandable and interesting so that they can get good grades.
• Critical thinking is analysis of a situation with application of only concepts that fit the problem or the situation (Baker, Pomeroy, & Rudd, 2001).
• Creative thinking is when a person plays around with various concepts as well as mixes them with his own ideas (Baker, Pomeroy, & Rudd, 2001).

The essay will not deviate from the topic and will clearly explain the differences as well as the inter-relation so that it can be understood how plagiarism can be avoided. . The essay will make good use of journal articles for its preparation, but my own ideas, opinions and views will be put in it in order to make it unique. Critical Thinking

The essay will starts off by explaining the need to understand the difference between critical and creative thinking. Then the differences between the two will be clearly explained on the basis of many criteria, for example, associated thinking skills, conduct, benefits, outcomes, significance, effectiveness etc (Baker, Pomeroy, & Rudd, 2001). For example, critical thinking is defined based on question-answer approach and analysis (Bloch & Spataro, 2014), whereas creative thinking is based more on innovation and playing around with ideas. This essay will also highlight as to which type of thinking fits best in particular settings, for example, the need of problem solving ability or critical analysis in business settings, but need of both types during academic writing (Dwyer, Boswell, & Elliott, 2015). A very important part of the essay will be the explanation of inter-relation of critical and creative thinking. This will further elaborated in the essay.

Difference between the two types of thinking is highlighted so that these thinking skills can be employed differently and efficiently so that students understand as to how to enhance their self-learning experience (FORRESTER, 2009)

Undergraduate students in foreign universities are often unfamiliar with the procedure of academic writing. Thus plagiarism can be intentional as well as unintentional (M.M, Hashim, Zalipour, & Mustaffa, 2011).

Creative Thinking

The definition of plagiarism, reason to why students do it, how it can be avoided, and majorly how it can be avoided using critical and creative thinking skills (PARK, 2003), will be discussed in the essay.

The major point this section of the essay will cover is how critical analysis of a topic with the usage of peer-reviewed journal articles can produce innovative and creative ideas which if put into a readable format produces a good piece of writing (Li & Yang, 2014).

For the conclusion, the significance of the topic as well as the essay will be repeated briefly. Plagiarism can be avoided by all students and thinking abilities can be developed overtime with practice, determination and patience. It is important to remember that one way of developing thinking abilities is reading and writing, which actually make up academic writing.

Thus good thinking abilities produce genuine and original work and thinking abilities can be improved by writing. This point will be elaborated in a better way in the conclusion, to motivate the readers.
